2nd Prize at the St Paul's Art Show Bendigo, October 2023
I was flattered to win 2nd prize for the watercolour on canvas painting titled "God's Own Country". This work was an interpretation of an evocative scene from the movie by the same name. It was pleasing from the judge's comments (below) that she appreciated the sense of the moment being portrayed. “This work seems to catch it’s two subject’s mid-breath. As they gaze out into an open field, you can almost hear the intake of breath and feel the strength of the wind. The work alludes to a narrative, as though we have encountered these two men at a crucial point in their journey. The work is technically accomplished – there is a lightness of touch in the application of paint that is sophisticated and assured.”
Adventure at Mt Buller January 2019
We woke one morning to views of fires on Little Mount Buller easily visible from our balcony. Very impressed with the work of the firefighters and the aircraft which bombed the fire day and night. All turned out well in the end. The painting below is my representation of the event. Best Watercolour at the Harcourt "Applefest" Art Show 2018
This art show restricts entry to small paintings (less than 400mm including frame). I thought this small en plein air study of a derelict ute from Nick Truscot's place would be ideal. Flattered that it won best watercolour, when there were so many other worthy paintings. Best Watercolour at Bendigo Art Society Eaglehawk Art Show 2017
Very pleased to receive this recognition for the painting "First Light at Mt Buller" Thanks to Judge Jeffery Murrell for his insightful comments 15 Nov 2016: Paint out with the Bendigo Art Society at the Victoria Hill Historical Mine
Lots of fun and quite pleased with the result. Thanks to Stan Thomas for his suggestions for my painting on the day. Charlton Rotary Art Show 2016
Very flattered to receive the award "Best Watercolour" for my painting "Road-side Glimpse, Mt Tarengower", and also pleased that it found a new home. I regularly travelled to Baringhup in 2015 and 2016 to paint with the "Baringhup Landscapers". This view was very much a part of my life over that time. Award at the Maldon Art Show for a Painting Done Entirely "En Plein Air" Pleased to receive the "Best Local Subject" for my rendition of "Netti's Cottage" at the Maldon Art Show 2016. Here is the painting as it was done on the spot. Artists painting in the street for the Heathcote Art Show June 2016 This was great fun and a good chance to meet visitors to the Heathcote Wine Festival. Good that Maxine (Wade) and Ben (Winspear) also joined in and made the day all the more enjoyable. |
