Neil is a watercolour artist who thrives on working en plein air (on location). He believes that the emotional connection with the subject by working this way is hard to achieve from a photograph in a studio. Inspired by the work of his cousin and renowned watercolour artist Nornie Gude, it was natural for him to make watercolour his own medium. Having received instruction from a number of Australia’s most highly regarded contemporary watercolour artists, Neil continues to develop his own unique and confident style. Every painting is a new opportunity to learn more about how to express himself in this challenging and exciting medium. There is no subject that is not worth tackling. An important aim is to try and capture a scene in a way that evokes the feeling of the original observation. The image created becomes a record of an experience that Neil wants to share with the viewer.
